Auto-Steer Taxi at Airport (ASTAIR) – a SESAR exploratory research project led by ENAC – held a key validation session on ACHIL simulation platform from 12 to 16 May 2025.
Throughout this intensive week, consortium members focused on higher levels of automation and human-automation teaming, following a structured, five-part daily plan. Scripted scenarios replicated realistic operations at major airports such as Paris Aéroport - Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Royal Schiphol Group (AMS), covering both nominal situations and unexpected events.
This session wasn’t about measuring performance, but about gathering valuable feedback from airport operations experts on three key levels: the ASTAIR concept, the AI behaviour, and the human–machine interfaces.
Real-time simulations explored the concept, HMI design, and algorithm capabilities. This effort is part of a broader validation strategy, which also includes fast-time simulations and stakeholder workshops addressing operational challenges.
About ASTAIR: ASTAIR investigates human–machine collaboration to manage ground operations.
