Developed by ENAC, ELSA (ENAC Light Simulator for ATC) is a lightweight ATC simulator designed to support air traffic controller training from the early phases (surveillance, approach, en-route).

Already available on the school’s E-Campus digital learning platform, ELSA is now evolving into a web-based application, expanding its accessibility, usage, and deployment potential.

Designed as a modular, engaging, and educational tool, ELSA allows students to train independently or in groups, with or without instructor supervision, in a wide range of scenarios — from basic sequences to complex high-traffic situations — using a computer or even a simple tablet. It features standard ATC phraseology, emergency scenarios (radar/radio failure, etc.), STCA integration, and realistic aircraft performance modeling based on Eurocontrol’s BADA database.

Already deployed in several French metropolitan and overseas operational centers under an agreement with DSNA (air navigation service provider), ELSA extends initial training into operational environments. It also enables instructors to design targeted exercises and conduct pedagogical briefings. Each session provides a comprehensive debrief, including metrics on safety, operational performance, and environmental impact — with a particular focus on fuel consumption awareness, a key issue for tomorrow’s controllers.

With its flexibility and upcoming web version, ELSA paves the way for hybrid, collaborative, and remote-ready training formats, enabling real-time interaction between instructors, student controllers, and simulated pilots. A truly modern, agile, and engaging training solution.
