An alumni of the ENAC Airline Management Advanced Master, with nearly ten years of experience in flight operations, shares his professional journey from military aviation to the civil airline environment. Currently a flight operations specialist and former Lead Flight Operations Engineer and A320 Performance Instructor at Jazeera Airways, he reflects on how the programme provided a holistic understanding of airline management and strengthened his ability to contribute effectively to strategic decision-making within an airline.
Could you briefly introduce your background and your current role in your company?
I am a flight operations specialist with around 10 years aviation experience. I started as a pilot for the Indian Air Force and due to medical reasons, I had to leave and join the civil world. I have since worked in flight operations technical support and in my last role, I was the lead Flight Ops Engineer and A320 Performance instructor at Jazeera Airways, based in Kuwait.
What motivated you to choose this programme and how does this degree align with your professional ambitions?
I was looking for a Masters programme that I could attend virtually (online) so that it did not impact my work experience. I was also looking for a reputed university with a good Alumni network that could subsequently help me in career moves. MSALM at ENAC fitted all these requirements.
In your view, what clearly differentiates this degree from other aviation-related programmes?
This program offers a comprehensive and practical view of airline management, covering all key functional areas. The curriculum goes beyond theory and is closely aligned with real-world operations, which allowed me to directly relate the concepts from each module to practical applications within the airline where I work.
What key technical and transversal skills did you acquire through the programme?
I learnt a lot about the functioning and management of departments/subjects that I do not have direct interaction with on a daily basis. It helped me understand a holistic view of the functioning of an airline - beyond the scope that I am responsible for.
Do you think this degree will give you a competitive advantage and serve as a career booster ? If yes, could you explain how so ?
Yes, I think so. The understanding I have gained about airline finance, revenue management, maintenance planning and costing etc. puts me ahead of my peers in flight operations as it helps me understand higher management decisions better and I can contribute more effectively.
In one sentence, how would you summarise the added value of this programme?
This programme has helped me gain a holistic picture of the functioning and decision-making in an airline - not just from the professors/instructors, but also from my peers/classmates.
Would you recommend this program and why?
Yes, I would because this is one of the few programs I have seen that is connected to real-world knowledge and not just theoretical concepts.
What message would you send to future aviation professionals considering this programme?
If you see your future in the Airline business, this program will teach you cross-functional decision making that will help you grow in the industry.
